Human Variation   Cold temperatures are an environmental stress that can cause multiple problems in humans. When a human is exposed to cold temperatures for too long it can cause frost bite, hypothermia, and sometimes even death to name a few. A short term adaptation to cold weather is shivering. Shivering can induce body muscle heat. This method could be a problem though because, it requires an increased intake of nutrients to provide the energy needed. A facultative adaptation is Vasoconstriction. During Vasoconstriction our blood vessels narrow to reduce blood flow to the skin. This would help to retain body heat. A developmental adaptation is people in colder climates tend to have more body fat. They are usually short and rounder then people in warmer climates. This extra fat in the body adds extra layers to help retain body heat. A cultural adaptation is the clothing people wear. Eskimos and people in colder climates wear heavier clothing. They wear parkas and jackets ful...
Language Blog Post   This week we were asked to communicate with a partner. The first part was communicating without language for 15 minutes and the second part was to communicate without body or facial language. So when it came to the first part of the assignment I found it to be very difficult not to use language at all. I personally love talking so this was difficult to accomplish. By not being able to communicate with spoken language I found that it did alter the way my partner communicated with me. At first, it seemed like my partner was confused by my absence of speaking but, he quickly turned to conversation to something where I could use body language and hand gestures to be able to answer him.      I think in this conversation my partner was in charge of what we talked about and when the subjects changed. This is due to the fact that I could not speak so they had free reign to be in control of what was brought up. My partner was the one asking the...
The Piltdown Hoax   Back in the 1900's, 1912 to be exact in the small village of piltdown and amateur archaeologist named Charles Dawson claimed to find a piece of an ancient human skull. When this skull was found Dawson called in the leading geologist in England Arthur Smith Woodward and a man named Father Pierre to help him continue digging the site. These fossils were seen as phenomenal because, they would be the first ever found in England. While continuing the dig Dawson apparently came across a jawbone that looked human but, also looked like an ape jawbone with human teeth. If this discovery turned out to be a human jawbone the trio believed it would show proof that humans and apes were related. By finding these items it appeared that England would be responsible for having the oldest humans due to how it looked compared to other fossils that had been found in other countries. Also by finding these items it proved what Arthur Keith had been saying all along ...

A: The two species I found to have the homologus trait is the frog and the rabbit. Frogs are amphibians that can not only live on land but also in water. They are known for their extremely long hind legs that make it so they can make incredibly long leaps. They only procreate in water and have very smooth skin. Rabbits are mammals that strictly live on land. Most people keep them as pets and kids in agriculture use them in competitions. They have large teeth and are very fluffy. Small fun fact people believe that rabbit's feet are lucky. Their long legs make them very agile. Rabbits had to adapt to be fast to outrun predators. The homologous trait they share is the humerus bone. B: These animals are homologous due to their common ancestor the Eusthenopteron. The Eusthenopteron is an extinct lobe fish that gave the rabbit and frog their common trait. Both these animals may share this common trait but, like I explained before they use it in different ways. The frog uses it to swim f...
Week 1 Historical Influences on Darwin After reading the text I think that Alfred Russell Wallace had the most influence on Darwin. Most people would not know this but, Wallace was the co-founder of the evolutionary theory. The bullet point that I believe fits the best for Wallace is if the environment changes, the traits that are helpful or adaptive to that environment will be different. In 1885, Wallace actually posted an article stating that all species were descendants of other's the appearance of the new species was due to environmental factors. These factors made the "new" species adapt to survive in different conditions. I do believe Darwin would have been able to publish his theory without Wallace but, without Wallace getting close to the answer Darwin would not have published as soon. When he saw Wallace getting close to figuring the theory out it kicked Darwin into gear to get his work published. The attitude of the Church was a big factor in how long it took ...

What I would bring with me if I was stranded on a deserted island

If I was ever stranded on a deserted island I would want matches and a machete. These items would not only come in handy for building shelter and creating warmth but, they would also help in finding food and cooking said food. I know these items might sound cliche but, I feel like they are the most obvious choices to bring with me.
